KOSHTA – THE CONCEPT OF GUT OR BOWEL MOVEMENT

Koshta cab be anatomically considered as a space that holds the structures/organs of the alimentary tract.

From the point of physiology, it can be considered as bowel movements, and these are influenced by the doshas.

TYPES OF KOSHTA

  • Kroora koshta
  • Mrudu koshta
  • Madhyama koshta

Kroora koshta

            In this type of koshta,vata dosha predominance is seen. The bowel is hard. There is the effect of agni -vishamagni. The person finds it difficult to pass the bowel.

Mrudhu koshta

            Pitta dosha predominance is seen and the person purgates even on the consumption of milk or milk products. Agni acting over here is teekshnaagni.

Madhyama koshta

            Kapaha dosha predominace is seen. Bowel movement is moderate. Agni acting upon it is mandagni.
