AYURVEDA AND DETOXIFICATION

The word detoxification in all its sense has reached every corner of the world and has been enlightened enough to get people to undertake but the root of the word can be dug out from our very own ancient and holistic science of Ayurveda. Although detoxification has been often correlated to panchakarma, the ayurvedic panchakarma procedure is much more intense and calls for a proper regimen starting from choosing a qualified practitioner to following the steps of pretherapy, therapy, and post-therapy in a disciplined manner.

Detoxification can be broadly categorized into:

  • Physical Detoxification
  • Mental Detoxification

PHYSICAL DETOXIFICATION

The body is the temple of our soul. Keeping the body healthy means keeping a balanced state of dosha (vital forces of our body) and getting rid of toxins from our body from time to time.

The preoperative procedures like abhyanga (medicated oil massage), svedana (medicated fomentation) help to bring the doshas and other toxins from the extremities to the gut, and thereafter through proper assessment, the person is subjected to vamana, virechana, nasya, raktamokshana, basti, etc. treatments depending on the conditions followed by post therapeutic diet and regimen.

MENTAL DETOXIFICATION

The splendidity of ayurvedic science is the importance it’s given to our mental well-being.

The detoxification of manas is also explained in our science after the assessment of dosha vitiation through prashna, pareeksha, etc, and implementing various procedures like nasya, yoga, pranayama, etc.
