Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College is a Government aided institution. it was founded by the late Ashtavaidyan E.T. Neelakandan Mooss on 2nd October 1976 and is under the management of Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Educational Society, registered under the Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII/1955. The College is affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences and offers B.A.M.S. degree (Ayurveda acharya). The course is recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicines (CCIM) and is of a duration of 5½ years. The sprawling campus accommodates administrative and academic blocks, hospitals, auditorium, herbal garden, hostels for men and women and facilities for sports and games.

Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College is an outstanding institution in terms of academic excellence and achievements. The various departments and affiliated facilities, besides providing ample academic inputs, also contribute towards research that is on par with international standards.

Founder

Sri. Neelakandan Mooss hailed from the Eledath Thaikkattu Mooss family of Thaikkattussery, Thrissur. His father, Sri. Narayanan Mooss, was a renowned practitioner and was bestowed the title “Vaidyaratnam” by the then Viceroy of India, Lord Reading in recognition of his meritorious contribution to the medical field. Following his father’s footsteps, Sri. Neelakandan Mooss took to Ayurveda and started the Vaidyaratnam Oushadhashala in 1941.

In his continued efforts to enhance the reach of Ayurveda, he founded the Vaidyaratnam Nursing Home, Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College and Ayurvedic Research Centre. Under his sustained efforts, Vaidyaratnam Group soon became a celebrated tradition in the history of Ayurveda. He was honoured with the prestigious national award, “Padmashree” by the Government of India in the year 1992.

Hospital
The College has a major hospital complex in the campus. Dr. Anand P K V, MD (Ay) is the Superintendent of the Hospital and Dr. Abdul Ravoof P. K, MD (Ay) is the RMO. The hospital with daily 8 OP Sessions and 124 beds IP facility for patients is equipped with modern diagnostic and clinical facilities, including 3 Operation Theatres, modern bio-chemic laboratory, an X-ray unit, ECG and Ultra sound scan Unit. 2 Panchakarma theatre for male and female, Yoga ward, physiotherapy rehabilitation unit is also attached. Ksharasuthra treatment, Ante natal clinic, infertility clinic, ENT and Eye diseases clinic, visha treatment, skin clinic, paediatric treatment, Spine disease clinic, hridroga clinic, manasaroga clinic, are also available in the hospital.

The College is equipped with 14 departments as per the NCISM norms. 26 teaching faculties including 1 for Sanskrit make the departments function with eminent potential. Out of these faculties 2 are Ph.D holders.
