Poonthottam Ayurvedasram was established by Vaidya P.M.S. Raveendranath, also known as Vaidya Ravi. He and his family currently run and own the facility. In the heart of Kerala, a Namboothiri family welcomed Vaidya Ravi into the world in July 1965. His father was a revered Sanskrit instructor, and his family had incorporated Ayurveda into their daily lives. This is how he acquired his comprehensive understanding of Ayurveda. Sanskrit was introduced to Vaidya Ravi at an early age, and he subsequently gained knowledge of Ayurveda.

Vaidya Ravi spent time with his mentor Sri.Vaidyamadom Valiya Narayanan Namboothiri, a well-known physician ( Vaidyan) who follows the Ashta Vaidya tradition, during the last stages of his learning to develop the skills necessary for clinical practice. People from the Vaidyamadom family are physicians who have the right to access the Vedic sacrifice/ritual premises (popularly known as Shalavaidyas) in Kerala. The Vaidyamadom family practices prayer acts or the Dakshinamoorthy Upasana.

Following the death of his mentor, Vaidya Ravi established the “Poonthottam Ayurvedasram,” named after his family, in 1989. He hoped to establish an Ayurvedic treatment center. He claimed that therapy modalities such as sodhana (elimination) and Rasayana (rejuvenation) were neglected and could not be performed in outpatient clinics or at home.

Every generation introduces new medical technologies and disease situations to avoid or cure. Vaidya Ravi and his team of vaidyas recognize these benefits and developments and have discovered a more complicated and advanced version of Ayurveda that includes the use of high-grade medical technology to diagnose and treat a patient, in addition to our historically grounded approaches.

Some of our more recent developments include the establishment of new departments such as Ayurvedic and Tantric Psychology, Ano-Rectal Clinic, a Feminine Health Clinic, and so on. The innovation in the field of medication production has benefited us in improving the unit’s efficiency and standardizing the quality of medicines manufactured. Ayurvedasram

With 28 carefully planned rooms, our clean and pleasant ashram hospital can accommodate up to 45 in-patients at a time. A beneficial herb garden with over 200 different varieties of plants protects the facility, providing an educational experience for patients and their families. Patients are allowed to travel around the campus but must contact the office before going on long walks outside of our protected enclosure. During the course of therapy, vehicles are not allowed inside the compound, and leaving campus is not recommended.

Poonthottam Ayurvedasram and BOHECO have joined forces to launch AyurCann, a medical initiative built on the principle of employing Ayurveda to maximize the healing power of Cannabis Leaf Extracts. Poonthottam Manufacturing Unit

At our plant in Kulakkad, we produce over 300 ayurvedic medications in a GMP-certified manufacturing unit. Furthermore, Vaidya Ravi-approved combinations are being used to create unique medications, which are also in the process of being made. Since the hospital’s founding in 1989, internal manufacturing has been a regular feature. Before our full-fledged manufacturing operation was established, Vaidya Ravi personally created every medication that was needed right here on the campus..

He hired a special medication production wing to operate under his strict supervision as the demand for his effective therapy grew and the quality of the medicines improved guidance. By 2007, we had constructed a fully functional modern facility to meet increased demand while sticking to GMP quality requirements.

Raw Material Collection

The selection of pure raw materials and their preparation is the most crucial step in the creation of medications. Through local contacts who produce these herbs in their farms and homes, many raw ingredients, such as Bala, Sunthi, etc., are gathered locally.

The remaining pharmaceutical supplies are purchased from merchants with whom we have a long-standing, reliable relationship lasting for at least 30 years. Once obtained, the raw materials are extensively examined by the Quality Control Team, and only after receiving their approval are the ingredients moved forward. A compost pit is used to store the rejected lots. The facility gathers and stores the raw resources according to the season.

Medicine Preparation

The medications are made in our state-of-the-art facility under strict supervision. During the 15-day manufacturing period, which lasts around 24 hours every day, it operates continuously. For the goal of maintaining our emphasis on quality above quantity, the plant deliberately operates at a 50% efficiency rate. In order to improve efficiency, the boiler mechanism has taken the place of the outdated firewood burner system. To keep the quality of the medications at a consistently high standard, the quality control team inspects each final product.

Our R&D department oversees the creation of new products and, where necessary, makes improvements to the ones that already exist. New products are created in response to market demand, and they are only introduced into the market and hospitals when they have met all legal criteria such as requirements for product studies, clinical studies, drug licenses, etc.

When Vaidya Ravi developed an exclusive technique for turning all the historically traditional kashaayas’ into tablets that are easily taken, the Ayurvedic community experienced a major development. The decoctions, or kashaayas, may be simply absorbed into one’s lifestyle without losing their original purity. No additives or preservatives are used in Ayurvedic products.

Outlets

The medications that are produced are mostly utilized for in-house patients via the campus outlet. A new branch has been established in the neighboring town of Cherpulassery to facilitate OTC purchases and also do refills.
