Established in 1902, Keraleeya Ayurveda Samajam is a distinguished institution with a century-old tradition of practicing authentic Ayurveda. Founded under the combined efforts of the princely states of Malabar and Kochi, Samajam aims to make the benefits of Ayurveda accessible to the common man. As one of India’s first charitable organizations, it has played a pivotal role in promoting and preserving the genuine traditional Keraleeya system of Ayurvedic treatments.
Historical Roots:
The visionary decision to establish Samajam was made by the Zamorin of Calicut, ManavikramaEttan Raja, in 1902. Originally named “Arya Vaidya Samajam,” it initiated the first Ayurveda treatment center, learning center, and medicine manufacturing unit for the public. Over the years, Samajam has stayed true to the traditional Kerala system of Ayurveda treatment, medicine preparation, and scientific research instituted by its founding Masters of Ayurveda.
Charitable Beginnings:
Registered under the Charitable Societies Act in 1913, Keraleeya Ayurveda Samajam is credited as one of the best places for Ayurveda treatments and learning the Indian system of medicine. The institution has a solid tradition of over a century in Ayurveda, making it a pioneer in the field.
Founder Members:
The establishment of Samajam was possible through the collaborative efforts of distinguished individuals, including Manavikraman Ettan Raja, Rama Varma Appan Thampuran, KR Padmanabha Iyer, and A.V Govinda Menon. These visionary leaders laid the foundation for an institution that would shape the landscape of Ayurveda for years to come.
PNNM Ayurveda Medical College:
Samajam’s commitment to education led to the establishment of PNNM Ayurveda Medical College in 2007, a dream realized by Poomulli Neelakandan Namboodirippad. The college, affiliated with the University of Calicut and the Kerala University of Health & Allied Sciences, aims to impart knowledge across various streams of Indian healing systems.
