The Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (Coimbatore) Limited, also known as AVP, is a renowned company and a pioneer in the field of Ayurveda. Founded in the 1940s, AVP has gained a strong reputation for its contributions to Ayurvedic medicine. Headquartered in Coimbatore, the company has established a wide network of doctors, as well as a robust sales and distribution system throughout India.
The management of AVP is led by late Padma Shri P.R. Krishnakumar, a visionary who played a pivotal role in promoting Ayurveda globally, including through his engagement with the World Health Organization (WHO). In recognition of his exceptional efforts in promoting Ayurveda and serving society, Shri Krishnakumar was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri Award by the Government of India in 2009 and the National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Award in 2016.

AVP takes pride in its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Kanjikode, Kerala. The facility is GMP certified and adheres to the highest quality control standards. Additionally, AVP has recently established ISO 22716:2007 certified facilities, designed to meet the World Health Organization’s GMP standards. These facilities manufacture approximately 500 products, primarily classical formulations, combining traditional wisdom with modern techniques while maintaining strict quality control measures.

The Kanjikode factory benefits from its strategic location in the Palghat District of Kerala, which provides easy access to fresh herbs from the Western Ghats. It is situated in a pollution-free area with access to high-quality water. AVP’s second factory, located in Thennilapuram near Alathur, is also in a rural area abundant with raw materials and water sources.
Over the years, AVP has expanded its scope beyond Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing. The group is involved in the establishment of treatment centers, education and research, and the manufacturing of Ayurvedic equipment. AVP’s commitment to quality care and purity of treatment sets it apart in the industry.
The flagship treatment facility of AVP is The Arya Vaidya Chikitsalayam & Research Institute (AVC), established in 1957 in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. AVC holds the distinction of being one of the first Ayurvedic hospitals to achieve ISO 9001:2008 certification for its adherence to international quality standards. It has garnered recognition from esteemed media outlets like the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and the Washington Post, which has dubbed it the “Mayo Clinic of Ayurveda.”
AVC has collaborated with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the World Health Organization (WHO) on research related to the efficacy of Ayurvedic treatments for rheumatoid arthritis. In recognition of its pioneering work, AVC received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA, for the first-ever clinical trial evaluating Ayurveda outside the USA. In 2009, the Department of AYUSH, Government of India, bestowed the “Centre of Excellence” in clinical rheumatology award upon AVC.
To further its research efforts, AVP established The AVP Research Foundation (formerly known as AVT Institute for Advanced Research) in 2003. Initially a research department under AVC, it has since become an independent not-for-profit research institution registered in 2012. The foundation excels in clinical research on Ayurvedic medicines, practice-based evidence initiatives, development of research and education-oriented software for the Ayurvedic community, and journal indexing services in Ayurveda. The institution has been recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India.
The AVCRI Ramanathapuram campus is renowned for its unique “Dhanwantari Temple” and attracts patients from around the world. The Aryavaidyan Shri P. V. Rama Variar Birth Centennial Ayurveda Hospital and Training Academy, located in the foothills of the Western Ghats amidst a serene and unpolluted environment, is a preferred destination for foreigners seeking learning and treatment experiences. Saranya Ayurveda Hospital, situated off the National Highway to Kerala in a beautiful rural setting, is another facility offered by AVP. AVP has official partnerships with Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Switzerland, and Latvia for conducting academic and research activities. In 2015, AVP Baltics was registered in Riga, Latvia, with the aim of promoting Ayurveda in the European Union, with a particular focus on Baltic countries.
