Spine & Joint Care – Ayurvedic Perspective

Overview

Spine & Joint Care is a specialized healthcare venture founded by Dr. Anoop Nair and Dr. Greeshma M, both Ayurvedic doctors. The clinic combines traditional Ayurveda Marma Therapy with modern Osteopathy and Chiropractic manipulations to provide immediate and long-lasting results. Marma points are subtle energy centers in the body that influence physical and life force functions. Proper stimulation of these points enhances body efficiency, restores health, and promotes overall wellness.

Specialized Treatments

Spondylitis

  • Inflammation of vertebral joints, often causing back and neck pain.
  • Develops silently and may become noticeable only when advanced.

Scoliosis

  • Sideways curvature of the spine, most often during puberty.
  • Causes may include cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or unknown factors.
  • Mild cases are common; severe curves can reduce chest space, affecting lung function.

Lordosis

  • Inward curvature of the lumbar spine above the buttocks.
  • Mild lordosis is normal; excessive curvature is termed hyperlordosis.
  • Most juvenile cases resolve as the child grows (benign juvenile lordosis).

Frozen Shoulder

  • Gradual pain and stiffness in the shoulder joint lasting 1–3 years.
  • Shoulder comprises humerus, scapula, clavicle, and the capsule that holds them together.
  • Thickening of the capsule and scar tissue formation limit movement.
  • Reduction of synovial fluid decreases joint lubrication, further restricting motion.

Tennis Elbow

  • Inflammation of tendons connecting forearm muscles to the outer elbow.
  • Often caused by repetitive forearm movements; not exclusive to tennis players.

Golfer’s Elbow

  • Injury to muscles that flex the wrist and fingers.
  • Site of injury is the medial epicondyle (bony bump on inner elbow).

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

  • Compression of the median nerve at the wrist causing pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand and arm.

Knee Pain

  • Common across all ages; can result from injury, arthritis, gout, or infections.

Bursitis

  • Inflammation of small fluid-filled sacs (bursae) near joints.
  • Common in shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, heel, or big toe.
  • Linked to repetitive motion; proper rest and care usually relieve pain within weeks, though recurrences are possible.

Ayurvedic Perspective

Joint and spine disorders are often associated with Vata Dosha imbalance. Accumulation of toxins and impaired circulation of Prana and Marma energy can exacerbate pain and stiffness. Ayurveda focuses on restoring doshic balance, improving joint function, and enhancing overall vitality.

Ayurvedic Treatment Approach

  • Marma Therapy: Stimulates energy points to restore body function.
  • Osteopathy & Chiropractic Manipulations: Correct structural misalignments and improve mobility.
  • Shodhana & Shamana Therapies: Detoxification and pacification of aggravated doshas.
  • Individualized Care: Treatment is tailored to the patient’s condition, age, and strength.

Supportive Lifestyle Measures

  • Gentle exercises and physiotherapy to maintain mobility.
  • Balanced diet and adequate hydration.
  • Avoidance of repetitive strain or overuse of affected joints.
  • Stress management and relaxation techniques.
  • Regular follow-up and lifestyle counseling to prevent recurrence.
